Curriculum Design and Experience
Experience
After designing music curricula for IBDP, GCSE, UK National Curriculum, American curriculum, and the Berklee College of Music curriculum, I am confident I have the experience and flexibility to design the perfect music curriculum for your school.
Berklee College of Music
For two years, I worked at USFQ College of Music, part of the Berklee international network. During that time, and following the Berklee curriculum guidelines, I designed and taught the 4-year Jazz Piano Performance program for undergraduate students. I also created two subjects based on the students' needs: Jazz Piano Accompaniment and Piano Trio. I also coordinated performances, scheduled rehearsals, and auditioned groups. Additionally, I trained students to audition for Berklee graduate school, achieving a 100% acceptance rate.
IB Diploma Programme
I have been teaching IB Diploma for four years, two of which I was working in an IB Diploma-only school. Besides IBDP Music, I taught Theory of Knowledge, IBDP Theatre, and I am a CAS and EE supervisor. I have taken two IBDP Music Trainings (Category 2 and 3), and I am an IBDP Music Examiner. Additionally, I have delivered workshops on using technology to teach IBDP Music for Dipont Education, an international educational company with more than 500 teachers and present in more than 40 schools in China.
I enjoy teaching the IB because of its values and openness, which is especially evident in music, theatre, and visual arts. Also, it allows for project-based learning which I find essential for living in a knowledge-based, highly technological society. My students have scored above world average by at least one mark.
GCSE Pearson Edexcel
I have been teaching GCSE Music for the past year and a half, and by the time I finish my current contract, it will have been two years. Using my experience in IBDP, I have created high-quality materials for my students to succeed.
My first cohort of students scored an average of 7.5 out of 9 points in their GCSE Music course, and I hope to see these results improve in the future.
Currently, I am in the process of becoming a GCSE examiner.
UK National Curriculum
I have been teaching within the UK National Curriculum for the past year and a half, and by the time I finish my current appointment, it will have been two years. I designed a balanced three-year curriculum for students between Years 7 and 9 with equal emphasis on each one of the following UK National Curriculum topics and skills:
NC1 - Performing music
NC2- Creating music
NC4- Reading/Writing music
NC5- Exploring music
NC6- Understanding Music
US Curriculum
I designed a highly innovative music curriculum under the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation (NC State University). It was an introductory course on the whole musical process, from listening to producing. I also designed and implemented a Songwriting class and a Music Production Class, with excellent student feedback. Due to the success of the program, I received several mentions and awards, including the Teacher of the Year Award in 2017.
